On Saturday, their anticipation finally came to an end with the start of the Grand March as 180 students attended prom. When asked what inspired him to make the suit, Peterson commented that he has “always had an attraction to duct tape. It’s just part of who I am.” The theme of the 2011 prom, “A Night in Wonderland,” was selected by the Class of 2011. These props were built mostly by MHS students under the direction of agriculture teacher Brian Albers. The meal consisted of chicken, potatoes, vegetables, mixed fruit, and cupcakes. This year, a professional DJ was not hired to run the dance. Instead, students created a playlist on the school’s iPod and ran the dance themselves. Prom ended at midnight, but most students stayed up for Daybreak, the annual post-prom party. Every year, Daybreak is organized and chaperoned by parents of junior prom-goers and supported by fund-raisers the parents organize as well as donations from local businesses.
