Elizabeth Bentley, 25, will wear our fabulous take on the dress, created in just two days, and our Kate-inspired tiara, when she marries Welsh Guard Stuart Robinson in December. The similarities between the couple and our future king and queen don’t end there either. While Elizabeth bears more than just a passing ­resemblance to Kate, her fiancé Stuart will wear his Dress uniform – as William did – and was even there as part of the royal wedding day. And when the couple revealed their own love story, we just had to choose them as our worthy winners. “I am so happy that I won,” says Elizabeth, from Cwmbran, Gwent. ­“I didn’t expect it in a million years. For me and Stuart, it is like getting the real dress. “Watching the wedding last Friday, I knew Stuart was going to be ­wearing his uniform. This feels like fate.” Elizabeth and Stuart grew up together as their mums Janet and Elizabeth’s mum Karen Baret, 49, have been best friends since they met at primary school 45 years ago. They were both pregnant at the same time with Elizabeth and Stuart. The mothers dreamed that their kids would make the perfect couple so they set up a meeting between the pair, a-line prom dresses uk and immediately the two ­hit it off. “Because our mums are so close, me and Stuart grew up together,” says Elizabeth. “We always knew each other but when we left school I didn’t see him for a couple of years. I went to live in Cyprus on a gap year and Stuart joined the Welsh Guards. “It was my stepdad’s 60th birthday and when I walked in the room, I saw Stuart. It felt like my heart had stopped. When I’d left he was just a boy, now he was a strapping man.” Stuart has been in the Welsh Guards for seven years and has been posted to Iraq, Bosnia and Afghanistan. Elizabeth adds: “The moment we went out for a drink we both knew ­it was meant to be. I know it sounds clichéd, but it was love at first sight. I was seeing him in a way I’d never done before but also had the same familiarity of having known him ­all my life. “The expression ‘mum knows best’ is so true! It’s down to them that ­I found my life partner and we will always be thankful for that.” Stuart lives at Hounslow barracks, London, while Elizabeth is training to be a secondary school science teacher in Cwmbran. “It’s hard with Stuart living in London, but we see each other every weekend at least,” she says. “We love dreaming of our future, planning to buy our first house or having children.” The couple are set to marry on December 17 before Stuart is ­deployed to Afghanistan next year. Elizabeth says: “We wanted to get married before Stuart goes because you always worry ‘what if?’ “I want nothing more than to be married. Stuart’s my soulmate.” Elizabeth says Janet, who has four sons, is more than delighted about the wedding. “Janet is elated as she doesn’t have a daughter. It’s like I’m her child now and she is getting the chance to be girly for the first time in her life. I hadn’t even tried on any dresses dresses for my wedding yet, I’d only bought the bridesmaid’s dresses. “I’d had a quick look but couldn’t find anything even nearly as nice as Kate’s. Now I don’t have to do that, because I know I have found my dream dress.” And putting the dress on for the first time, Elizabeth says: “I love it, it’s perfect. It’s the first dress I’ve tried on and it made me feel like a p­rincess. The dress feels comfortable and not as heavy as I thought.
