Upon your arrival you might see two lines of spiffy tuxes and their partners, one leading to a table where several teachers were kind enough to check people in and direct them to their tables, while the other lead to a somber room with several authority figures standing by with breathalyzers to ensure that nobody had been partying too hard before prom itself. Now, it’s unclear whether anybody was sent away with a warning from that room, but judging by how packed the ballroom was that evening it seems unlikely that there were any mishaps there. Students, having been checked in and breathalyzed, were left to take pictures with their lovely partners or to mill about and socialize while people were arriving. Hosts of students stood in the lobby of the hotel, chatting and enjoying themselves in anticipation of the night of tom-foolery that would await them. Little did they know just how crazy things would get! When the doors to the ballroom finally opened, there was an alarming rush for the doors to squeeze into the room, which caused a few problems as the guys tried to avoid traipsing upon any flowing dresses and causing an uproar. The scene that they beheld were large circular tables lining the walls of the room seating ten people apiece, which in turn bordered a large open space in the middle of the room underneath several decorative dimmed lights with wooden flooring and some enormous speakers at the far end of the room. While most students merely sought to find their seats and work out whose friends were where, there were always a few people who thought it would be cool to be the first to dance at prom and were already out on the dance floor dancing with themselves or jamming out to the music that only they could seem to hear. There were certainly a few interesting dancers there to be sure. Soon after, the Court was announced to the delight of the students; this was one of the main points of entertainment for their evening, and it was going to be good. They then proceeded to have their traditional dance as the royal court, as the rest looked on in admiration and delight. Surprisingly, the staff did nothing to stop the grinding at prom which they had threatened to do in years past, and looked on with distaste or simply looked in the other direction for fear that their queasy stomachs couldn’t handle the sad sight on the floor. It was obvious that they noticed, but perhaps it was already happening so quickly on such a large scale that they could not stop it. Miraculously, there were no incidents on the way home from the hotel, and everything turned out pretty well on the whole. So to those who could not attend this night of wonder and mystique, now you know the splendor of what awaits when you do attend.
